What is Gala Games (GALA)?
Gala Games aims to take the gaming industry in a different direction from tradition by allowing gamers to take control of their games. Gala Games’ mission is to create “blockchain games you really want to play”.
Gala Games wants to change the reality in today’s traditional games that gamers can lose all assets in the game with just one click of the publisher’s mouse. The project plans to reintroduce creative thinking into games by allowing gamers to control in-game assets with the help of blockchain technology.
Gamers can own NFTs and influence the management of games in the Gala Games ecosystem. Founder Nodes voting mechanism allows gamers to influence which games the project should develop and which games should receive funding. So far, Gala Games has released a game called Town Star and a collection of NFT – VOX.
Since its launch in 2019, Gala Games has had 1.3 million monthly active users and 26,000 NFTs sold, with the most expensive product worth $3 million.
Gala Games was founded by Eric Schiermeyer, the co-founder of the famous mobile game company Zynga. Under Schiermeyer’s leadership, Zynga released hits like Poker, Mafia Wars and Farmville. Schiermeyer launched Gala Games on July 21, 2019 to create a blockchain-based gaming network and give gamers more ownership over the games they play.
In total, Gala Games currently has 60 employees.
What makes Gala Games so unique?
Gala Games is not a single game, it offers a whole range of different blockchain games. Town Star, their first title was a town simulation game in which gamers manage a town similar to SimCity’s gameplay, but in Town Star they actually own the town, possibly can buy and sell.
VOX is Gala Games’ NFT collection. Each VOX is unique and some VOXs are rarer than others. There were 8,888 VOX distributed with an average price of 0.0888 ETH, or about $300 at press time. Although inspired by the Town Star, VOX also has a number of other utilities beyond just being an NFT avatar. Owners can lock up GALA and earn VOX using their VOX Avatar in the future. VOX owners also receive an FBX file, allowing them to animate or even 3D print them in the future.
Other games are also being developed by Gala Games, such as Fortified, Mirandus, Echoes of Empire and Spider Tank Project.
Users can run Gala Nodes to support the Gala network. In return, they get rewards like GALA Token, limited edition NFT and other earning opportunities. The Gala Node ecosystem uses 3 algorithms, including Proof of Work (PoW), Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Storage (Proof of Storage).
PoW is known as Founder Nodes, which are fully owned 50,000 NFT based tier 1 nodes. These are the earliest backers, they will receive NFT from all subsequent games and GALA allocated to their nodes. PoS are paid nodes that operate for specific games, through a smart contract “rent” structure. Proof of storage as free nodes will allow games to be fully hosted on the node ecosystem, eliminating reliance on centralized hosting solutions like Amazon S3.
The maximum total supply will be 35 billion GALA. Currently, there are about 7 billion GALA in circulation.
17,123,286 GALA will be distributed daily at approximately 2 AM UTC. Half of these GALAs are distributed to Founder Node operators and half to the Gala Games governing body. Every year, on July 21, the distribution of GALA will be halved. For example, starting July 21, 2022, the daily distribution of GALA will be 8,561,643 instead of 17,123,286.
GALA serves as a utility token used to purchase in-game items and can be earned from running a node.
How secure is the Gala Games network?
The GALA token runs on Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain (BSC). The network is secured by its own set of nodes called the Founder Node. Gala Games assigns up to 50,000 Founder Nodes to validate in-game transactions and secure the network.
Nodes can also vote on which games are released on the Gala Games platform. You can operate a node by purchasing an account and running it on your computer. GALA is rewarded to node operators according to a points system. Running a node for a minimum of six hours in a cycle gets 1 point, and referring nodes running for at least six hours gets 0.1 point. At the time of distribution, all the points are added together and the GALA is divided by these points.
