What is Whatsapp?
Whatsapp is a free messaging app for smartphones. Instead of sending messages through your carrier, Whatsapp allows you to send messages, pictures, audio or video over the internet. Whatsapp at first glance looks like a normal messaging service, but the main point of Whatsapp is that it is based on the internet. This makes Whatsapp a lot cheaper than other messaging services. Whatsapp’s customer segment is mainly focused on teenagers with features such as group chat, voice messages or location sharing.
In 2014, Facebook spent up to $19 billion to acquire the world’s most popular messaging app. Currently worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Whatsapp is very popular in America, Africa, Europe, Middle East, South Asia and Africa.
One of the main reasons why many users prefer Telegram over WhatsApp is the ease of joining groups and channels. Telegram allows users to create large groups where administrators can send information to their larger audience. Recently, in one of the latest versions of WhatsApp, we can turn groups into channels like on Telegram. Down here Bitcoin Magazine will guide you how to create a Whatsapp channel.
How to create a channel (Channel) for Whatsapp
The first thing you have to do is create a group as usual, open the drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the screen and tap on New Group.
After doing that, you have to open a new menu in the chat itself and go to the group info.
In addition to adding images and descriptions, the most important option is found in the Group Settings section (Group settings). There, find two options that you have to change: Edit group info ( Edit group info) and Send Message ( Send messages). To make it like a regular channel you need to set both of these options to Admin Only (Only admins).
After these steps, the group is left with only admin who can write posts, and it has become a channel in the true sense of the word.
To share it with other users you can add them manually or share the URL which you can find in the Invite link option (Invite via link) in the main menu. In this section you can also see the participants, make any of them admin or click them out of the group. One cool feature is that group creators are always one step higher than admins, with the ability to turn anyone back into a normal user if they like.
While these new features give WhatsApp a new dimension, it still limits the number of participants, allowing only up to 256 people used for each group. Still a long way from the 100,000 users that Telegram allows in their supergroups.
